Philip Haywood Glenister is an English actor, known for his role as DCI Gene Hunt in British television series Life On Mars and its sequel Ashes To Ashes.

Philip Glenister was born in Harrow and grew up in Hatch End in Middlesex. He is the son of director John Glenister, and his brother is actor Robert Glenister. He attended Hatch End Comprehensive School , and with the encouragement of his then-sister-in-law Amanda Redman to pursue acting and attend drama school, the Central School of Speech and Drama. Glenister has been married to the actress Beth Goddard since 2006, and they have two children; Millie and Charlotte.

On 28 October 2008 on the Paul O'Grady TV show he claimed to be a fan of non-league football team Wealdstone. He is also a well known Arsenal fan and a keen golfer.

He is patron of the charity Momentum in Kingston upon Thames, which aims to help children and the families of children undergoing treatment for cancer in Surrey.
